The Architect’s Guardian: Chapter 20

Izdahl is so revealing in The Architect’s Guardian, Chapter 20.  Here’s an excerpt:

Armando’s words ended. He had reached the center of the magazine. There was a ten-page photographic spread of Izdahl. Through 25 pictures, he showed off his excellent physique in a series of nudes. The virile, confident expression on Izdahl’s face and his beautiful body guaranteed that he would be the source for many fantasies. Armando felt jealousy burning at the center of his stomach, as he saw his lover so blatantly and casually on display.

The Architect’s Guardian, Chapter 19 is up! Here’s an excerpt:

Armando’s remark only served to further irritate Izdahl. He knew he had overstepped his bounds, not thinking of the consequences of publically downplaying the importance of another clan’s leader. While everyone knew the hierarchy, it was particularly in bad form for one Kelcho’s follower to be dismissive of another Kelcho. During the time when the clans had their most brutal feuds, battles were started over those types of insults; the Nitelge pride had overrode their restraint.

The Architect’s Guardian: Chapter 18

It’s Chapter 18 of The Architect’s Guardian! This was one of my favorites to write. Here’s just a bit:

Armando reached again for the light and, again, Izdahl stopped him. This time he pinned Armando’s hands to his side. The ease with which he did it was unnerving. Armando knew Izdahl was considerably stronger than him but it was rare that his lover casually displayed that. Izdahl’s next words didn’t help to ease the apprehension Armando was feeling. There was a roughness to his lover’s voice that Armando had not previously heard.

Dagmar saw a flash of annoyance travel across Izdahl’s face. The Kelcho was determined to compound it and chuckled lightly. He patted Izdahl on his face.  Izdahl swallowed the comment that wanted to burst from his throat. Instead of lashing out, he moved a small distance away. He knew if he went too far, he’d have to answer to his parents, his grandfather, his great-grandmother…and most of all Armando. He knew his lover disliked scenes, especially in public.

It was not until his fragment had been completely triggered that Izdahl realized the depth of his responsibility. He knew it meant that his life with Armando would permanently change, whether or not the Basheil attack the planet.

Armando rubbed his arms rapidly, trying to clear his mind of the images that had been bothering him for weeks. He had hoped that, by now, he would be able to sleep properly. Yet, this was not the case. Even now, the visions from the dream lingered, creating in him a doubt that he was truly awake, safe with Izdahl next to him.

  1. Izdahl got up out of bed. Armando gave his torso an appreciative appraisal as he searched one of the dressers. He opened the top drawer and removed a box. It contained an item that carried several deep meanings for him. He hoped Armando would accept it.
  2. Armando woke up sweating, the coldness of the chains and words maliciously grasping at him. He sat up quickly and scanned the room. It was as if the presence had left his dreams and entered the bedroom. When he was sure that was not the case, his breathing slowed to normal.

The Architect’s Guardian Chapter 13 has been posted!  Here are a few snippets:

  1. Izdahl was trying to decide what to do about Leila Barton. He was playing his cello, practicing Franz Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata. He’d heard it two months ago at Dmitri’s home and had wanted to perform it for the upcoming orchestral concert. While he played, he reviewed various scenes from the lunch with Viktor’s lover.
  2. Without warning, his A string broke, snapping up towards his left eye. It cut into the flesh of his cheek. He winced, surprised.

Izdahl started to walk over to him to give him a kiss goodbye but stopped mid-step. The expression that came across Armando’s face was not the one he’d expected to see. The architect seemed to be seconds away from fleeing the house.

  1. When he touched the disk of blood around his neck, Rasmus saw the image of Armando walking his horse. Once again, he found himself wishing that he could be with the architect.
  2. Armando replayed in his mind how he had last spoken to Izdahl. The argument had surprised him, being the complete opposite of what he’d hoped would happen that night. He’d wanted to celebrate with Izdahl.
